Great tour and well worth a visit. This was not on our list when visiting the Gulf coast but we are happy that we stopped to take the tour and visit the museum. We loved the house and hearing about the history of Jefferson Davis. The tour guide was informative and very open to questions. The museum is very interesting and included as part of the house tour.
While taking in the tour at this (DOI recognized) 'historical site', I quietly wondered what it would be like if Germany had warm historical takes on the places where former Nazi leaders lived out the rest of their days in peace. Would the gift shop in that alternate reality be as gross?
Jokes aside, this place is simply disgusting. They romance lies and inaccuracies to the delight of the ne'er-do-wells... the folks that came not for history, but to celebrate a lavish symbol of their archaic beliefs.
Had an awesome time a specially the tour of the house it's self guide was awesome and very very nice. And smart definitely going back
A Jefferson Davis museum that isn't mostly about slavery, which is what the CSA was created to preserve, is like an Adolf Hitler museum that forgets to mention the Holocaust.
Excellent experience. Tour guide was informative, interesting and welcoming of questions. Loved the house, the period pieces, personal belongings of the Davis family, and the impact of/restorations after Katrina. The cemetery was in a lovely setting. Museum was interesting, especially the old Stars and Bars flag. Gift shop had lots of interesting books for all ages. A great visit.
Contempt for justice and history would need to be pretty large to rate this place above one star.
